Quanstar Novlink designed and manufactured a custom self-service kiosk for the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT), working with IT consulting and system integration partner Techsure. Instead of adapting an off-the-shelf unit, we built the kiosk’s enclosure, hardware layout and peripherals around EXAT’s system requirements from day one.

The kiosk stands at EXAT’s headquarters in Bangkok and controls visitor access to the server room: each visitor scans their ID card, registers their face, and the doors open automatically. We delivered the project in 20 days.

Who is EXAT?
The Expressway Authority of Thailand is a state enterprise under Thailand’s Ministry of Transport, founded in 1972 and headquartered in Bangkok. It builds, operates and maintains expressways, including toll collection. Public-sector projects like this carry strict functional and system requirements, which is why a standard kiosk was not enough.
What is a custom self-service kiosk?
A custom self-service kiosk is a kiosk that the manufacturer designs for one organization’s specific system and service flow. Instead of picking a fixed catalog model, the manufacturer tailors the enclosure, internal layout and peripherals, such as ID card readers, face-recognition cameras, printers and payment devices.
The hardware fits the requirements, not the other way around.
Why an off-the-shelf kiosk didn’t fit?
A self-service kiosk is more than a screen that shows information. It has to house and connect every device the back-end system depends on, and its shape has to suit the space and the way people actually use it. A standard unit built for general use can limit:
- Peripheral installation – no room or mounting points for the devices the system needs.
- Hardware layout – you can’t arrange internal components for wiring, cooling or service access.
- Enclosure design – the form factor doesn’t match the site or the service flow.
So the real question was not “Which kiosk model should we buy?” but “How should the kiosk be designed for this project?“
| Factor | Off-the-shelf kiosk | Custom self-service kiosk |
| Fit to system requirements | Partial; system adapts to hardware | Full; hardware designed around the system |
| Peripherals | Limited to the model’s options | Chosen and laid out for the project |
| Enclosure and form factor | Fixed design | Designed for the site and users |
| Integration with SI partner | After purchase | From the design stage |
| Best for | Standard use cases, small rollouts | Government, enterprise and specialized service flows |
How we built EXAT’s kiosk
- Requirements first. Techsure, as IT consultant and system integrator, defined the system requirements; hardware development followed them from the start.
- Structure and design. We designed the kiosk’s structure and exterior around the site and the way EXAT delivers the service.
- Hardware layout. We planned the placement and support of every device the system needs, so the hardware works cleanly with the connected systems.
- Manufacturing. We built the units in-house, keeping control over every hardware detail, and completed installation within a 20-day lead time.
The result
The result is a self-service kiosk we developed specifically for EXAT’s requirements, not a general-purpose unit we adapted after the fact. Designing hardware and system integration together gave tighter control over the unit’s form, device placement and the components needed in daily operation.
Custom kiosks for government and enterprise projects in Thailand
Quanstar Novlink is a Bangkok-based manufacturer of self-service kiosks, LED displays and digital signage. We handle custom kiosk projects end to end – design, hardware development and manufacturing – and work alongside system integrators so the hardware and software fit from the first drawing. Every project has its own brief, and not every brief needs the same solution.

An off-the-shelf kiosk is a fixed catalog model with set peripherals and enclosure. With a custom kiosk, we design the peripherals, internal layout and form factor around your system and site, so the hardware fits the project instead of the other way around.
When the service relies on specific devices or back-end systems, has a non-standard installation space, or must meet public-sector or enterprise requirements. Government agencies, transport operators, hospitals and multi-branch retailers often fall into this category.
Yes. On the EXAT project we worked with Techsure, an IT consulting and system integration provider, so hardware development followed the system requirements from the start.
It depends on the requirements. We delivered EXAT’s visitor-registration kiosk in 20 days, meeting the government’s certification and security requirements along the way.
Yes. Alongside self-service kiosks, Quanstar Novlink supplies LCD and LED digital signage and interactive displays for retail, F&B, corporate, education and events in Thailand.
